RCR assists local high schools in the development of athletes and rowing programs by facilitating team creation, coaching, and safety standards for the programs. We aim to grow the High School rowing scene in Richmond and offer rowing as an exciting new sport and opportunity.

Summer Junior Sculling 2020

RCR is excited to announce we will be hosting an abbreviated and safe Summer rowing season for athletes in the Richmond area starting this March. All athletes grades 7-12 are welcome to join and no experience is necessary! Athletes will learn the fundamentals of sculling while operating in individual or small group sessions that allow athletes to row in an individual boat and maintain a safe social distance. Strong leadership, teamwork, and individual goal setting are emphasized as students better themselves on and off the water. For more information or to apply, use our sign-up tab or email us at tim@rowrva.org.

Practice Schedule: Determined between parent and coach

Where: 4400 E Main St. Richmond, VA

Cost: Given the individual nature of the program, cost will be determined after parents speak with coaches and determine goals/objectives and practice outline. We will always work to get an athlete on the water so please contact us for any financial concerns. Our goal is accessibility!

Individual High Performance Lessons

We offer private and small group learn to row or individual skills development lessons for area youth. Lessons range from basic instruction to high performance feedback. Athletes have the opportunity to work with college coaches and compete in regattas as a showcase for their development. We hope to have athletes return to their home programs with a better individual grasp on the sport and an increase in ability. In partnership with the Virginia Boat Club, RCR hosts an annual High School Development Summer Camp. We work with rowers from all over Central Virginia and provide new skills and techniques to enhance their rowing abilities.

*Due to COVID-19 concerns, this camp will be cancelled until further notice*

Many colleges at the DI, DII, and DIII level offer NCAA rowing scholarships for women’s rowing. Many local Virginia schools offer these scholarships and recruit in-state. We hope to provide another avenue for Richmond student athletes to afford college and compete in a sport they love.
